Honda Fit Hybrid 2014 review
Have you calculated the amount of money you use in fueling your car the whole year in Nairobi? If not try doing or keeping records of the fuel you use in one month and you will realise that the amount that goes to servicing your car or to buy spares if there is any is very small compared to the amount used to fuel your car.
The above should drive someone to think critically about how he/she should salvage that pocket from the cost of fuel in Kenya. Owning an hybrid car is one of the ways one needs to consider if the cost of fuel expenditure is to be achieved in one’s budget. Many countries in Europe, America etc have embraced hybrid and electric cars as a means of cutting cost of emissions as well as keeping money in their pockets while driving around.
I once drove Honda fit 1500 hybrid from Nairobi to Githunguri then Ruiru and back to Nairobi and the fuel gauge was still reading high. I had fueled it with Kshs 1000. That is and indication that with 1000/= one can drive for more than 50 kms without refueling. If one fuels a non-hybrid car with the same amount of money then he/she must refuel on the way because non-hybrid and hybrid cars cannot compare in terms of fuel consumption.
Falacy
There is a widespread rumours especially in Kenya that hybrid cars are non lasting and that their batteries are very expensive. It is very sad to note the persons who spread the rumours have never owned hybrid cars. Many of the people who purport to know the said cars are quack mechanics who have never gone to mechanical engineering class and are not aware of the changes that are going on globally. A cell of a hybrid battery costs as little as 2700 shillings just like the plug sparks. Some batteries are costly and one cannot claim to attribute that to the reason we should not embrace technology. A gear box for a fielder is, for instance costing Kshs 85000 and one does not replace it often unless it fails. The same applies to hybrid battery; they do not get depleted easily as people think.
The cars go through a thorough research on parts before they are put in use. Our mechanics are just finding them when the cars have already been used and are having good track records. Change is inevitable and you are not the first one to use hybrid cars. Going some years back is that Kenyans refused to buy automatic gear cars because mechanics were advising them not to buy alas the world did not listen to their misinformation.
Buy hybrid fielder, Hybrid, Honda fit etc and see and enjoy the benefits of the new world order. Do not be let behind with the static generation.
