Peugeot 208 is a small family car that is manufactured by French company – Peugeot. It has been in the Kenyan market for many years even though its market slowed down after the departure of Marshalls in early 2000. The 208 2021 model is a successor of 2016-2019 model that came with a 1200cc turbo charged engine and a 6 speed EAT6 gearbox. The 2021 however, a 1000cc turbo engine has been introduced with a horse power of 110Hp giving the buyers and option of 1200cc 130Hp and a 1000cc 110Hp.

Peugeot used a semi automatic gearbox for one year in 2015 but went back to its successful EAT6 in 2016. This particular 2021 model uses and improved EAT8 gearbox and an improved Puretech 1200cc turbo charged that can now produce horse power of 130hp. The car brand also has a 1000cc engine with a horse power of 110hp so the client has a choice between the two engine versions when buying the new model of Peugeot 208.

Type of gear box and fuel economy

EAT6 gearbox compounded by turbo powered engine helps in reducing fuel consumption in that the driver does not need to press the gas peddle hard for the car to gain power; you only need a little pressure on the gas peddle and the car hit 100km/hour in 9 seconds only. A litre of petrol can give you between 16 and 20km/litre of around 5.5Litres/100km.

In spite of the small 1200cc 3 cylinder turbo engine, the car can produce and horse power of 130Hp – same power as Toyota fielder with 4 cylinder 1500cc. It is a good family car as it provides space for small luggage, good ground clearance, modern security features such city drive system, front and rear parking sensors, modern DAB infotainment, LED headlights and Day Running lights and besides, the car comes with 6 airbags making it one of the small safest car. Tyre size of the car is 195/55/R16 hence good for ground clearance.

Service parts

Servicing the car in Kenya is not expensive; an oil filter will cost as low as Kshs 800, air cleaner costs as low as 1300 and oil costs as little as 3160 (Total Quartz 7000 for mileages above 60,000kms). It uses DIN 66 battery and is locally available in places such as Impala auto spares, Amaron dealers and other battery dealers such as Chloride Exide. It is advisable to use modern mechanic as the car, just like most european cars requires modern knowhow and modern software.

The current price of the car is between Kshs 1,700,000 to 1,800,000 depending on whether you get high or low mileage and whether you get high or low grade.
