Peugeot has retired its Peugeot 208 hatchback H02 that has been in the market from 2016 and is now replacing it with a totally new model HN05 chassis prefix VR3. Everything has changed in the car; exterior and interior design has changed. It is the only car in Kenya in its category i.e hatchbacks below the budget of Kshs 2M that has wireless charging and 8 speed gearbox. The technology in new shape Peugeot 208 is mind boggling if you compare with the likes of Mazda Demio or Toyota Vitz.

Design and specifications

Peugeot has introduced a new engine, new seats design, new dash board, new steering that assume the shape of a 3008 steering wheel, infotainment, digital cluster, new design gear lever, electric parking brake, push start, tear drop day running lights, Apply car play and android auto connect display among other modern new features.

Is 1200cc a powerful engine?

The new 2020 model has two variants of engine size; a 1200cc with a horse power of 130HP and a torque of 230Nm and a 1000cc that can produce a horse power of 110hp and a torque of 205Nm. This particular one uses 1200cc turbo charged engine with a horse power of 130Hp and 230Nm of torque making it the most powerful car in its category of cars in Kenya. I mean Mazda Demio, VW Polo, Honda Fit, Nissan Note and Suzuki Swift etc.

Target audience

If you love extra power on the highway then a 1200cc will be ideal for you. 1000cc model is ideal for people who small but powerful engine and in Kenya such engines are associated with the female gender.

The car also, is ideal for driving on well muramed or tarmac roads so if you a resident of Nairobi then the car is suitable for you. The ground clearance, just like many modern cars such as Toyota Corolla sport etc needs some professional raising with springs.

Can any mechanic handle the car?

The car being modern car just like hybrid cars needs a specialist if the car is to last. Many Peugeot technicians are available in Nairobi hence no need to worry about the technicians.

What type of Gearbox does a Peugeot 208 2020 use?

Unlike the now retiring model of 2016-2019 which uses EAT6 – 6 speed, the new model uses an 8-speed gearbox called EAT8. The same type of gearbox is used by Peugeot 3008 2019, 2008 2020 and 308 2019.

Efficient Automatic Transmission (EAT) gearbox enhance fuel economy due to its ability to change gears almost instantly hence less pressure on gas peddle which translates to less fuel consumption. The advantage of of EAT gearbox over gearboxes such as CVT is that most parts are replaceable.

Fuel consumption

The fuel consumption of the car is amazingly good; a litre of petrol can give you upto 22.1 km/l if good spark plugs are used and proper align and recommended weight is applied to the car. Notably, it takes the car 8 seconds to hit 100km/hr. According to car.info the car is a 5-star Ancap rating and has collision mitigation system, 6 airbags and lane departure alert system.

Comparison between a Peugeot 1200cc turbo engine and other naturally aspirated engine eg Axio and Demio

The engine might look small but with technology, the car outperform many cars with eg 1500cc naturally aspirated engines such as Toyota Axio which inspite of a big engine produces horse power of 109Hp whereas a 1300cc Mazda Demio produces 81Hp or horse power.

Infotainment:

Peugeot use infotainment called DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) which enables the user to access many functionalities in the car. Controlling AC, tuning of radio-which picks all stations in Kenya, checking tyre pressure, controlling collision mitigation system among other functionalities are all done under one 12 inch screen. One can also connect his/her phone to the infotainment via Mirror link or apple car play.
