Why Peugeot 2008 2017 is the preferred mini SUV in Nairobi
Many years ago, Peugeot was a common car in Kenyan road both urban and rural areas. Current generation of car buyers who are mostly below 50 years saw their parents driving Peugeot 504, 505 etc and hence have affinity towards the Peugeot models.
Modern Peugeot has myriad of modern car features which young generation of car buyers love and perhaps that is the reason why Peugeot is appealing to the younger generation of 50 years and below or even upto 55 years. The older age who are nearing retiring prefer used Toyotas or Nissans because most of them are not able to raise the amount needed to buy new import Peugeot eg Peugeot 3008 or even 2008. Mose of these generation also are used to simple cars and do not want complicated cars hence they prefer buying used Nissan eg Nissan B15 or Toyota Premio 260 or 240 or other models of the same category.
Peugeot 2008 competes in the market with Nissan Juke 1500cc and whereas Nissan Juke has been in the market for a long time without any major facelift apart from changing of headlights and tail light design, Peugeot 2008 entered into the market in 2015 with a different face from the 2017 model. Notably, modern car buyers love new things and I consider them as fast-moving objects who do not wait for something for too long. Nissan Juke has maintained one shape and it seems the buyers are tired of the shape and are moving to Peugeot 2008 enmass.
When it comes to Kenyan market Nissan is not a darling many as it is stigmatised in many ways unlike Peugeot whose reputation is good apart from the falacy that is associated with lack of spares. As a matter of fact Peugeot parts are available and people who own it knows where to find the required parts.
Currently, apart from Nissan Juke, Peugeot is the only car in the category of SUV B Segment that one can acquire with a budget of between Kenya Shilling 1.8Million and 2Million in Kenya. The car’s interior comes with eye catching design thanks to its upholstery comprising alcantara seats blue stiches for cross city version and red stitches for GTLine package. Other features that are available in the car include cruise controls, dual AC, original infotainment among others. The face of the car is appealing. It bears the traditional “SIMBA Salute” logo and uniquely the car as corner lights which are not present in its competitors such as Juke or Suzuki SX 4 SCross.
It has good clearance of 195cm and spacious boot space and to avoid hitting the pillars while parking, the car manufacture factored in the use of parking sensors.
